Fish Hook Ministry - Our Mission
In 1999, while at a Bible Study with some friends, we were trying to think of ways to minister to the local youth. Not around the world, but in our small town of Hampstead, Maryland. After many great ideas, and some not so great ones, I decided to sleep on it.
The next morning while reading my Bible I came across Mark 1:17 were Jesus said, "Come follow me and I will make you fishers of men.." There it was, I could take kids and their parents fishing on local ponds and share the bible and Gods love through my favorite hobby—fishing.
A small free fishing trip sign in my farm market, a dozen push button rods and reels, hooks, bobbers, and some night crawlers, and we soon had over 100 kids signed up. Local Christian men offered to help out, others offered their ponds free of charge. God made it come together.
Then I saw fish hooks for sale at a tackle shop, I thought that a tract would be neat as well as a hook to remind each fishermen of his experience with me fishing and hopefully a new life in Christ.
To finish off my little story, not only did Gods word move me to do some work for him but, he proved a bait shop owner who offered free tackle and bait, a local businessman purchased and printed up over 20,000 hook packs! All in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. How great God is!
